However much you’re looking to spend on a new bike, it’s important to know that you’re getting value for money. So here’s the best value bike of 2017 in the Cycling Weekly Bike of the Year awards.
This is a bike that is not only relatively inexpensive, but also offers an exceptional ride and even more exceptional specification for the money.
Winner: B’Twin Triban 540
B’Twin took this prize last year, and things have got even better in 2017, with the Triban 540 offering Shimano 105 shifting for only £650.
Considering the bargain basement price, we were expecting a bargain basement frame and wheels too, but what you get is nothing of the sort.
Don’t be put off by not having a carbon frame, as the aluminium Triban frame offers impressive performance and comfort, and the Mavic Aksium wheels are more often seen on bikes costing twice as much.
Runner Up: Canyon Endurace CF SLX 7.0
Choosing a £2,999 bike as the runner up for value might seem strange, but the new Endurace offers a truly excellent all-round ride for the price.
Based on the Ultimate, which took the overall Bike of the Year prize, the Endurace can deliver performance when needed, but also comes with disc brakes for superb braking and a relaxed geometry and comfortable rear end for superb all-day comfort too.
