Do I need to buy a special box from Bikeflights?
No, you are not required to buy a box directly from them. If you already own a hard-shell travel case (like a Scicon or Thule) or a sturdy cardboard bike box from your local bike shop, you can absolutely use it. You just need to measure and weigh your packed box to get the correct dimensions when buying your shipping label online.
If you don't have suitable packaging, Bikeflights does sell its own heavy-duty, reusable cardboard shipping boxes that can be delivered to your door.
How does BikeFlights Work?
Using Bikeflights to transport your ride is pretty much like booking a flight, but for your bicycle, and without the hassle of dragging a heavy box through an airport terminal. The process breaks down into a few simple steps:
Pack your bike: You can pack it yourself using a hard-shell travel case you own or one of Bikeflights' heavy-duty cardboard boxes. You can also use their bike shop finder to find a local partner shop to pack it for you.
Book your shipment: Once your bike is packed, weigh and measure the box. Enter these dimensions, along with your collection and delivery addresses, into the Bikeflights online tool.
Print your labels: After checking out, Bikeflights will generate your shipping labels and documents. Print these out and attach them securely to your box.
Hand it over: You can either drop your boxed bike off at a local carrier depot or partner bike shop, or schedule a driver to pick it up directly from your front door.
Track your ride: Once shipped, you will receive tracking notifications from pickup to delivery, so you know exactly where your bike is at all times.
