Ben Swift Blog: Life after the Tour

Despite it feeling like I’ve only just finished the Tour de France, I’m at it again, sitting on my bed in my hotel room ready for the Eneco Tour to start.

It has been two weeks since we were racing up and down the Champs Élysées in Paris and it feels like I haven’t stopped. I have had an action packed couple of weeks and I have met some very inspiring people.

I had a busy week straight after the tour with visits to CNP’s offices to see how their products are made, photo shoots, interviews, Alton Towers, a charity ride and a trip to the ITV Calendar studios.

I also attended a very special press launch evening to present the riders for the Emmerdale to Eastenders charity ride, in aid of Macmillan cancer.

The ride is taking place on August 19 and I am joining some of the cast of Emmerdale to try and raise money for this very deserving cause. You can donate by visiting their website:

I had a well-balanced week on the bike too, with a good mix of riding and days off. It was really nice to be able to ride my bike for fun again, with no stress or worry of doing certain training efforts. I feel I have come out of the Tour feeling pretty good and the legs have had good sensations when on the bike. The week after was more chilled out, and I had more time to get back in to a good rhythm of training.

I’ve been looking forward to getting back into the peloton at Eneco. It’s got a good mix of stages with a few TT’s, some hard days in the Ardennes and some flat windy stages. We have a very strong team here so we’ll be hoping to have a good race and see what we can come out with.
