The winners of the UCI WorldTour 2015 ranking competition will be awarded at an inaugural UCI Cycling Gala this autumn.
Bookending the 2015 season at the first ever edition of the four-stage UCI 2.1 Abu Dhabi Tour from October 8-11 will be the awards ceremony held on the grounds of the Yas Marina Formula One circuit.
Last year’s individual champion, Movistar’s Alejandro Valverde, currently leads the rankings once again from Team Sky’s Chris Froome by 60 points on 482.
Spain, winners of the nation prize for the past three years, look set to make it another national success, but Movistar may be denied their third successive team prize with Team Sky currently in pole position to regain the team accolade they last won in 2012.
Osama Al Shafar, President of the UAE Cycling Federation, said: “Cycling in the UAE needs to host events such as the UCI Cycling Gala.
“It means we’re on track to increase public approval, locally and internationally. This partnership is a confirmation of our strategies.”
The last race of the WorldTour season is Il Lombardia on October 4, the final Monument the new season closer after the removal of the Tour of Beijing from the calendar.
