Blackburn’s Airstick is one of the original mini-pumps, and still sets the benchmark in its field, hence its inclusion here. A robust anodised aluminium inner and outer shaft give it excellent durability.

The slightly larger size allows for excellent grip, with a flip-out handle giving optimum comfort. The extra weight and size is the only complaint here.

Pint Size is a fitting name for the smallest and lightest pump here. The small handle extends out with two internal shafts, and for such a small pump the amount of air it exhales is excellent, proving it is more than size that counts as it is on a par with the larger Blackburn. At the higher pressure the small handle is all that lets it down.

Innovation?s Second Wind uses a CO2 cartridge as its handle, but with 200 strokes for only 60psi, the pump itself is not very effective. The CO2 element is great, giving a high inflation, but if you puncture more than once be sure to have spare cartridges. Topping up the tyre is also difficult given the pump?s size.

Verdict
Efficiency and comfort makes the Airstick a great choice, but if you want light weight and no bulk then the Pint Size is also excellent. The Second Wind is impressive with the CO2 but unfortunately does not cut it as a pump alone.
