The race takes place on Saturday, August 1 with a start time of 11:05am CEST / 10:05pm BST.

Clásica de San Sebastián 2026: Need to Know

Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe star Remco Evenepoel arrives at Donostia Klasikoa as the firm favourite, having finished second at the Tour de France only last week and previously won here in 2019, 2022 and 2023. The Belgian takes on the 221.1 km route backed by a strong team including five-time Grand Tour winner Primož Roglič, rising star Giulio Pellizzari and Maxim Van Gils.

Evenepoel's main challengers include last year's champion Giulio Ciccone, who boasts both the experience of winning this race and the support of a strong Lidl-Trek collective; Bahrain Victorious rider Lenny Martinez, fresh from finishing fifth at the Tour de France; and two potential outsiders from UAE Team Emirates XRG: Jhonatan Narváez, a multiple stage winner at the Giro d'Italia, and Jan Christen, who was second behind Ciccone 12 months ago.

The race begins and ends in San Sebastián (Donostia in Basque, hence the name) and takes in seven categorised climbs. The most challenging ascents are Urraki (8.6 km at 6.9%), Jaizkibel (7.9 km at 5.6%), Erlaitz (3.8 km at 10.6%) and Murgil (2.1 km at 10.1%), with the latter taking on an almost mythical quality as the brutal final climb of the race.
