British Cycling's coaches will wait until Thursday to decide on Ed Clancy's fitness ahead of Friday's World Championship omnium.

Clancy missed Great Britain's bronze medal-winning ride against New Zealand in the team pursuit having pulled up early in the qualifying ride.

The Olympic champion has been under the weather recently and sat up in the final kilometre of the qualifying round.

Before the Worlds, Clancy had been Britain's man for the two-day, six event omnium. But his illness has put that in doubt.

Sam Harrison, the Welsh teenager who replaced Clancy in the team pursuit line-up, could now ride the omnium. He won the Beijing round of the World Cup in January.

As things stand, he is scheduled to ride the individual pursuit on Thursday but British Cycling are poised to pull him out if Clancy is not able to ride the omnium.

The omnium is an OIympic event, so it takes priority over the individual pursuit, which is not.

If Harrison does not ride the individual pursuit on Thursday it will indicate that Clancy is not going to be fit.
