Alé Graphics PRR Ponente bib shorts review

Euro-styled bib shorts that fit well

Cycling Weekly Verdict

These shorts can compete with much higher priced rivals

    Great fit

Stay in place thanks to grippy leg cuffs

Not as warm as similar shorts

Top marks for Euro-styling go-to Alé, with their bold design, though, as with other shorts, the look may divide opinion. As we saw with the Graphics PRR Alé winter jersey, which scored well in our thermal jersey test, Alé know about getting the fit right.

Like the aforementioned matching jersey, the cut and fit is exceptionally good. The sticky shoulder straps provide a close fit, and were instantly forgettable, hugging the body very well. The extra-long, grippy leg cuffs didn’t budge an inch during testing (riding-up shorts can be an irritating feature).

Alé suggest a temperature range of 5-10°C, but we found the shorts struggled to keep us warm much below 7/8°C. An option here would be to combine them with a pair of chamois-free bibtights.

For performance, these shorts are able to compete with the high-priced Rapha offering. They’re not the warmest — Alé has the thicker Klimatik shorts for colder conditions — or cheapest, but we could find nothing of significance to fault them with.
