There are more UK sportive cycling events than ever before but don't hang around too long to enter because rides are already selling out if you have your heart set on a particular one. If you do miss out, you may be tempted to look a little further afield; and why not?

CA Says One of the friendliest events we rode last year with the achievable distance and seafront finish lending it a family atmosphere. The first third is merely lumpy before you have to tackle the steady climb to the top of the Mendips via Burrington Combe. The tops of the Mendip Hills are rolling with beautiful views especially where you tumble off the ridge for the descent to the final third across the Somerset Levels.

CA says Combining two of the UK’s areas of outstanding beauty along with a unique ferry trip gives a sportive an interesting twist. This three-part sportive starts from the iconic New Forest National Park with the route sweeping south through the forest passing picturesque villages and wild animals at the roadside before arriving at Lymington where your timing will stop. Cyclists will board the next ferry, cross the Solent and arrive on the Isle of Wight. Your time will start again as you continue the second part of your sportive around the sensational Isle of Wight. The route will head clockwise around the island and picks the quietest roads and coastline vistas. Once riders arrive back at Yarmouth, your time will stop and you’ll take the ferry back to the mainland. The final leg is a short ride back through the stunning forest to the finish. The shorter route still completes a lap of the Isle of Wight but has a shorter New Forest section.
