The Classics always spring a surprise, but surely none has equalled the drama brought by the Tour of Flanders this year.

>>> Peter Sagan on Tour of Flanders crash: ‘It was partly my fault’

Not only did the winner, Philippe Gilbert make his winning move from an incredible distance of 55km, but we saw Tom Boonen (Quick-Step) suffer heartbreak in his final Ronde as he succumbed to a mechanical on the Taaienberg, Sep Vanmarcke inexplicably crash and take out Luke Rowe, as well as Peter Sagan caught in a crash on the Oude Kwaremont.

It was a thrilling affair over the 260km through the Hellingen of Flanders, but only one man could come out as the hero of the day, and that was Philippe Gilbert and his Quick-Step Floors team.

It was a stunning victory that will long be remembered, and sets us up nicely for the next big Classic, Paris-Roubaix, which takes place next Sunday.
