The final stage of the 2017 Vuelta a España on Sunday ends three weeks of racing in Spain with a fast-paced finale in Madrid.

Although the flat and relatively short stage is more of a procession for the general classification contenders with their battle already settled on the previous day’s mountain stage. Expect to see on-bike celebrations including a glass of something bubbly for the race leader and their team.

But there’s still the serious matter of the final stage victory. After the stage start in Arroyomolinos, the riders travel north and then east towards the Spanish capital city.

The pace will pick up as the riders commence a circuit-based stage finish around Madrid that favours a bunch sprint – or a daring and successful late attack.

It’s the last chance for riders to grab some glory, with TV air time for riders in the break almost as important as a stage win.
