Kristian House career profile
All the pre-race build-up for the 2009 national road race championship was of which Europe-based pro would win: Millar, Hunt, Hammond, Cavendish, Froome and an in-form Wiggins were the names being bandied about.
It is fair to say Kristian House did not get a mention, but the hugely experienced Rapha Condor man picked a good time to land his first win of the season, taking a four-way sprint in Abergavenny after riding a canny race.

House was born in Kent, raised in Texas and made the big move to race in Belgium at the age of 17. The young House was a regular winner in kermesse and road races, as well as being a fringe player with the GB squad in both road and track events.
Winters spent racing and training in Australia work well for the globe-trotting rider, with several wins to his credit 'down under'. House rode for Recycling.co.uk in Britain in 2006, taking three Premier Calendar wins en route to winning the series, and taking the overall at the FDB insurance Ras, before heading back to the US for a year with the Navigators team.
Leading the mountains classification in the 2008 Tour of Britain was the highlight of his first year with Rapha Condor, but the national champion's jersey in '09 was the icing on the cake for the man from Kent.
House's affinity for the King of the Mountains jersey at the Tour of Britain was not over though, as he took it home in 2012, before coming runner-up in 2013.
