Mark Cavendish (Etixx-QuickStep) secured his first victory of the 2015 season on Sunday, winning the final stage sprint in the Tour de San Luis in Argentina.
The Manx sprint specialist got the better of San Luis nemesis Fernando Gaviria, the 20-year-old Colombian who had beaten Cavendish on the race's previous two sprint stages.
This time, Cavendish had the measure of Gaviria, opening up his sprint early to avoid being caught out by the Colombian's acceleration.

Argentinian Daniel Diaz (Funvic) gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about, taking the overall victory ahead of Rodolfo Torres (Colombia) and 2014 Giro d'Italia winner Nairo Quintana (Movistar).
Cavendish will now head to the four-stage Dubai Tour (February 4-7), where there should be more opportunities for bunch sprint wins.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
