Orica-GreenEdge‘s ‘backstage pass’ is always a good watch, from Chris Froome not getting their jokes during the Tour de France to their Giro d’Italia team announcement.

But this is a special episode from a very special race. Paris-Roubaix, the Hell of the North, is for many the highlight of the professional cycling calendar.

On his 15th completion and shortly before his 38th birthday, Mathew Hayman took the win in the Roubaix Velodrome ahead of four-time champion Tom Boonen.

A veteran in the peloton and a universally liked rider, few will begrudge him this victory.

The video is well put together, in particular when Hayman’s pre-race monologue is repeated over his efforts in the final 5km.

One of his rewards is a giant bottle of Kwaremont beer, which alone is a pretty good prize, but now he’ll have his own cobblestone to mark his greatest professional win.

“Oh fruit!” what a ride.
