The NHS has sent out a warning to all those who intend to lose weight in 2014 and suggest to not follow the 'fad' diets

The NHS has warned people to, “stop pouring money down the drain” with fad diets that emerge every new year, and instead suggested people follow their own 12-week weight loss plan.

“Every year people pour millions of pounds down the drain to no avail following one fad diet or another,” said Oxford University professor and government obesity advisor, Susan Jebb.

The beginning of each year starts the rise of gym membership deals, wacky weight loss ideas and expensive health supplements, all preying on the hope and enthusiasm of those who want to lead healthier lifestyles.

However, many people give up on gyms quickly, weight loss gimmicks don’t end up working and some supplements can even be dangerous.

Instead, the NHS weight loss plan encourages people to reduce their calorie intake by helping them stick to a strict daily calorie allowance of 1,900kcal a day for men, and 1,400kcal for women. There is also advice on how to lose pounds, low calorie snacks, how to beat cravings as well as food activity charts.

“There is no easy way to lose weight,” says Professor Jebb. “But the NHS weight loss plan includes a guide full of valuable tips and support to help put your good intentions into practice. It is free, straightforward and based on the best available evidence of what helps people to succeed in losing weight.”

I’ve been overweight for 10 years and tried so many things. Different things work for different people and I was lucky enough to find one that worked for me. I lost 25 pounds in one month without much exercise and it’s been a life changer. I’m a little embarrased to post my before and after photos here but if anyone actually cares to hear what I’ve been doing then I’d be happy to help in any way. Just shoot me an email at and I’ll show you my before and after photos, and tell you about how things are going for me with the stuff I’ve tried. I wish someone would have helped me out when I was struggling to find a solution so if I can help you then it would make my day
