Brian Cookson elected as new UCI president

Brian Cookson replaces Pat McQuaid as the president of cycle sport’s global governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), after winning the election on Friday.

British candidate Cookson was elected after the UCI congress voted 24-18 in his favour in Italy, ending Pat McQuaid’s tenure as president. McQuaid was the only other candidate.
