Name: Roger Hammond

Age: 34

From: Buckinghamshire

Disciplines: Men?s road race

Career synopsis: Since turning professional on the road with the Collstrop team in 2000, Hammond has focused his efforts on the Spring Classics, with his best results being 3rd at Paris-Roubaix in 2004 and 2nd at Ghent-Wevelgem in 2007. Hammond is also a prolific cyclo-cross rider winning the British championships seven times. Hammond is likely to play a support role in the Beijing road course, which is a hilly one not ideally suited to his strengths.

Titles held: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 British Cyclo-cross champion; 2003, 2004 British Road Race champion

Two things you didn?t know about… Hammond is a big fan of Minis and has several of them at his house in Belgium, including a bright purple Paul Smith limited edition. He decided to finish his university studies before focusing on a cycling career, and a win at Paris-Roubaix would mean more to him than a stage win in the Tour de France.
