First London Cycle Hire rider fatality

A cyclist riding a Barclays Cycle Hire bike in London has been killed after being struck by a lorry.

The as-yet-unnamed 20-year-old woman was travelling along a Cycle Superhighway on Whitechapel High Street, near Aldgate East station on Friday evening when the collision occurred.

It is the first time that someone riding a Barclays Cycle Hire bike has been involed in a fatal accident since the scheme was introduced in 2010, reports the BBC.

The driver of the lorry involved in the collision was questioned at the scene, but no arrest has so far been made.
