Mark Cavendish, Fabian Cancellara, Tony Martin, Peter Sagan and Marcel Kittel are among the stars in Dubai – and on the beach – ready for the inaugural Dubai Tour, starting on Wednesday.
It’s the first time this year that sprint stars Cavendish (Omega Pharma-QuickStep), Kittel (Giant-Shimano) and Sagan (Cannondale) will line up against each other in the bunch sprints. And the race’s opening individual time trial stage will be no less hotly contested, with world time trial champion Martin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep), former world TT champ Cancellara, Taylor Phinney (BMC) and Britain’s Alex Dowsett (Movistar) all present.

Current road race world champion Rui Costa (Movistar) is also in attendance, with UCI WorldTour champion Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) adding to the line-up.
The UCI 2.1-ranked Dubai Tour runs over four days, finishing on February 8.
The race is organised by RCS Sport, which also organises the Giro d’Italia, Milan-San Remo and many other events. The Dubai Tour in the first event in the 2014 UCI Asia Tour, and is followed in the Middle East by the Tour of Qatar (February 9-14) and Tour of Oman (February 18-23).
