Mallorca 312: Europe’s longest sportive?

At 312 kilometres (194 miles), the Mallorca 312 Sportive can credibly argue that it is Europe’s longest cyclo-sportive.

Entries are now open for the 2013 edition of the event – taking place on Saturday April 27 – which includes the option of riding an entire lap of the Balearic island. Even the ‘half’ lap distance of 167km (104 miles) is a proper leg-stretcher.

Both routes head in an anti-clockwise direction around the island, starting in Playa de Muro. Routes are well supported with signing, mechanical and medical back-up, well-stocked feedstations and a broomwagon should your legs fade. All participants also receive an event jersey, a finisher T-shirt, certificate of completion and entry to the post-ride pasta party.

This year’s Mallorca 312 was completed by the fastest rider in nine hours and 47 seconds – well within the 14 hour time limit. The fastest time for the 167 version was four hours and 54 seconds. Over 800 riders – many from Britain – took part in the 2012 event.

Entry costs €55 for the 312km route and €45 for the 167km route. Anyone entering the event qualifies for a 10 per cent discount at the Iberostar four-star hotel in Playa de Muro.
