When: Friday, September 16, 2011

Start: Taunton

Finish: Wells

Distance: 146km

ITV4 highlights: 8-9pm

The Mendip Hills throw two tough climbs at the riders during this stage, with the first-category Cheddar Gorge and Old Bristol Hill climbs both coming in the last 60 kilometres.

The early kilometres are spent on flatter terrain further to the south-west, passing Street – the home of Clarks shoes – and close to Glastonbury, but with it getting tough towards the end, it could throw up some time gaps.

The finishing town of Wells has a very impressive cathedral and the moated Bishop’s Palace and gardens.
