A prologue team time trial and hill-climb will feature in this year’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series, organiser SweetSpot confirmed today.
The town centre-based criterium series was officially unveiled at iceBike* 2014 in Milton Keynes this afternoon, although once again it won’t comprise solely of circuit races.

Stoke-on-Trent, an ever present in the event since its inception in 2009, will host round one on May 13. Having previously held the first team time trial in the series in 2012, it will again hold a two-lap squad gallop around its city centre, as well as a criterium race.
Although Jersey, the location of this year’s Grand Final, had previously been announced, the inclusion of a hill-climb to Mont Orgueil on the east coast of the island had not. This will be a two-kilometre, one-in-four challenge. It too will also host a circuit race in Gorey.
As predicted by CW earlier this month, Edinburgh will welcome the series for the first time on May 29, while Barrow is the other new venue on the schedule.
Peterborough will return to host round four on May 20 having missed the 2013 series, while Woking, another ever-present, has a final week slot once again.
All five of Britain’s UCI-ranked domestic teams will take part in the series. They will be joined by Starley Primal, Pedal Heaven and Redditch winners in 2013, Metaltek. Guest teams for rounds will be announced in due course.
Speaking about the sixth edition of the event, series director Mick Bennett said: “It’s important to know that it means so much to rest of the teams. Teams have got sponsorship on back of it, there is one hour TV coverage of each round on ITV4, and the response has been fantastic.
“It’s stood the test of time, and the regulations we wrote six years ago haven’t changed. It’s about the team, and it’s about how teams perform in all of the rounds.
“There is no other series like it in the rest of the world.”
