Some funny memes of broken telegraph poles soon appeared after Geraint Thomas shook off a bad looking crash to finish stage 16 of the Tour de France

Descending the Col de Manse on the run in to Gap at the end of stage 16 of the Tour de France, things went awry for Geraint Thomas when he was barged off the road by Warren Barguil.

Watching the footage back, any attempt to gain places in the fast moving line of riders at that point does seem ridiculous, so it’s just as well no one was seriously hurt.

It was soon clear that Thomas would be fine when he was cracking jokes at the finish line before he was taken away to be checked over properly.

The best among his quips was his response to being asking if he knew his own name, “Chris Froome” he joked. That joke continued the following morning.

Most importantly, Thomas is fine to race on

Geraint’s fiancée managed to find another pair of his beloved sunglasses. Presumably at home and not in the hedge like many on Twitter seem to think.
