The design of endurance bikes to reduce the transmission of road vibration to the rider is getting increasingly sophisticated and Fuji has applied a range of measures to its all-new Gran Fondo Disc.

It claims a reduction in road vibration of over 24% for the new model, which was unveiled today ahead of the Taiwan Bike Show. Steven Fairchild, Fuji’s Road Product Manger says: “The Gran Fondo is our answer to a cyclist’s nemesis: road vibration. It causes fatigue, compromises comfort, and diminishes performance.”
Centrepiece of the new model’s design is the incorporation of polyurethane-treated natural fibre into the carbon fibre lay-up in the forks, seatstays and chainstays where it has maximum effect on reducing road vibration. It’s an approach which has been used by other manufacturers such as Look and Merida in their endurance bikes. Fuji has also designed its seatstays with a wave in them to help increase damping and the chainstays are asymmetric to improve pedalling efficiency.
Otherwise, Fuji has followed the endurance bike pattern of a taller head tube for a more upright riding position and a longer wheelbase for more stable handling. It also fits 28mm tyres and the frame has clearance to go up to 30mm.

Also following the trend, the Gran Fondo is equipped with flat mount disc brakes and thru-axles: 12mm at the front and rear, although the rear can be converted to run conventional 135mm quick releases too. The bike is also fitted with hidden mudguard eyelets for wet weather readiness and all its cables are internally routed.
Release is scheduled for April 2016, with UK importer Evans Cycles opening up pre-orders tomorrow and stocking four specs at prices running from £1549 up to £3399 from May.
