Tour de Suisse race leader Tony Martin blitzes time trial stage
Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) extended his overall lead in the 2014 Tour de Suisse after winning Friday’s stage seven individual time trial – his second stage win in the race.
Time trial world champion Martin clocked 31-37 on the 25.7km route around Worb, 22 seconds ahead of second-placed Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Shimano) and 28 seconds ahead of defending champion Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida).
Martin now leads Dumoulin by 28 seconds overall, with Costa up to third at 1-05.
Two tough stages now remain in the race, which concludes on Sunday, June 22.
