Heading east, through the Somme, just south of the city of Amiens, this is another sprinters’ stage.
There are no classified climbs, just the rolling roads that cut though the vast patchwork of fields that makes up this rural part of France, which can feel much further than an hour from Paris – though this is all it takes by car to get to the capital.
Difficult to see any outcome other than a bunch sprint, and there’s a classic finish in Saint Quentin, identical to 2006, when Robbie McEwen was the winner on the edge of the Champs-Elysées Park.
