New website offers riders the chance to back unique jerseys and shorts
If you’re a rider looking for uniquely designed cycling kit, or a designer trying to get your work out on the road, then KitSource, a new crowdfunding website dealing exclusively in cycling kit, might be for you.
The rise of crowdfunding has been impossible to ignore in the last few years, with websites such as Kickstarter providing a platform for thousands of projects to find funding, and the industry being worth over $5 billion in 2013.
KitSource, which launched today, invites designers (or indeed anyone) to submit jersey and shorts designs, which are then uploaded to the site if they meet KitSource’s “awesomeness standards”. Users are then invited to back designs with pledges of $150 (£95), and once a kit attracts 100 backers it is put into production. Simple.
The kit itself is manufactured in the US by Hincapie Sportswear. The jersey features a full-length zipper, three back pockets with reflective piping, and silicon grippers on the rear. There are also silicon grippers and reflective touches on the bib shorts, which are definitely designed for summer riding with full mesh straps.
It’s only a few hours old, so KitSource only offers four designs to choose from for now, but they’re certainly eye-catching and you’re unlikely to bump into someone with the same kit any time soon.
Head over to www.kit-source.com to see if anything catches your fancy, and there are sure to be more designs to choose from once the power of the internet kicks in.
