One man, one bike, one velodrome: the Hour Record is the ultimate race of truth. Unlike a time trial stage of a Grand Tour, when a favourite might have a bad day but still win as their rivals suffer too, there is no hiding when it comes to the Hour. Ride hard but at a measured pace for 60 minutes and the record is yours. Easy really.
Thanks to Jens Voigt’s successful tilt at the Hour Record back in September – the first for nine years, and at the time only the third this century – the Hour Record is back on the radar of the professional peloton.

Rumours and confirmations of attempts are now stacking up, with everyone arguably wanting to get in quick before the big guns in the shape of Messrs Wiggins and Martin come along and blow them all away.
