Some riders stick with a team for years and become synonymous with that squad. Tom Boonen has been with Quick-Step in its various guises since 2003 and it’s now hard to imagine him riding for anyone else.
But for others, one year contracts and team swaps – often going up and down from the WorldTour – are more commonplace.
Whether there’s a clash of styles or a disappointing run of results, riders will jump ship to save their own career or be pushed out by a team wanting to jettison a poor investment.
