THE 2006 Tour of Britain (August 29-September 3) is beginning to take shape, following the regional launch of the South-East stage on June 6. The 155km fifth stage will start in Rochester and finish in Canterbury, taking the riders south to Dover and Folkestone, then heading west towards Tunbridge Wells and north past Maidstone before the finish.

The Tour of Britain organisers have also announced the participation of three ProTour teams in this year?s race. CSC, Phonak and T-Mobile have committed to being on the start line in Glasgow.

Tony Doyle MBE, the Tour of Britain event director, said: ?It?s great that the top three ProTour teams want to race at the Tour of Britain. The quality of teams and riders is building every year, and 2006 will be the best yet.?


Stage 1, August 29: Scotland, Glasgow-Castle Douglas

Stage 2, August 30: Northwest, Blackpool-Liverpool

Stage 3, August 31: Yorkshire (exact route to be confirmed)

Stage 4, September 1: West Midlands, Wolverhampton

Stage 5, September 2: South-East, Rochester-Canterbury

Stage 6, September 3: London, Greenwich-The Mall
