No surprise that it's an American giant that tops the table.

If you’re going to take a very cold and calculated approach to buying your next bike, then you could use worse methodology than looking at the number of wins that each bike brand took during the 2015 season.

To save you time in this important task, we’ve crunched the numbers and produced a league table of the number of wins (stage wins and overall victories) that each bike brand has taken in the fourteen indicidual races and thirteen stage races that made up the 2015 WorldTour.

>>> Winners and losers in the 2015 WorldTour

It might not come as too much of a surprise to find out who tops the charts for 2015. A Specialized bike has been ridden to 27 top-level victories this year (including two Grand Tours courtesy of Alberto Contador at the Giro d’Italia and Fabio Aru at the Vuelta a España), followed closely by Canyon with 26 wins, and Pinarello rounding out the podium with 17 victories.

At the bottom of the table, Cannondale has had the fewest wins of any WorldTour bike supplier, only taking the top step of the podium on a single occasion (courtesy of Davide Formolo on stage four of the Giro d’Italia). This meant that its victory tally was behind two bike brands, Cervelo and Orbea, who didn’t sponsor a WorldTour team last year.

Of course the numbers are a little bit skewed due to a handful of manufacturers sponsoring more than one team. This would have a particular effect on the top of the table, where Specialized sponsor three teams (Astana, Etixx-Quick Step, and Tinkoff-Saxo), and Canyon two (Movistar and Katusha).

The Specialized S-Works Tarmac was the main bike of choice for three WorldTour teams

In fact if you only take the most successful team that each brand sponsors, then Pinarello would take the top spot with all of its wins coming courtesy of Team Sky, followed by Canyon (Katusha) with 16, BMC (BMC Racing) with 14, and Ridley (Lotto-Soudal) with 12.

2015 WorldTour race wins (individual stage wins and overall classification wins) by bike manufacturer:

Specialized – 27
Canyon – 26
Pinarello – 17
BMC – 14
Scott – 13

Do not Merida own Specialized amongst other firms.

I should have said I OWN a Colnago! I was very close to getting a SWorks Tarmac but pleased I didn’t… I can’t slate Specialized as they do make good bikes however you pay a lot for what you get in my opinion…

It was probably about 1 million times better than the American s***** CW seems so obsessed with.

    Specialized invest
a great deal in development, but I suspect there is marginal difference between the
top bike brands. At that level, winning is more to do with the riders, and team
tactics. A winning brand sells bikes – it is the same for most sports.

    I’m pleased I owned a Colnago 🙂

The Specialized giant kinda gets me down a bit.
