Currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, the new bike has most of the same features are more mainstream commuting bikes such as the Canyon Urban, namely a belt drive, disc brakes, anti-theft technology, and integrated lights. As an added bonus over the Canyon, the Gi FlyBike also has an inbuilt battery with a range of 60km on a single charge.

The Gi FlyBike is aimed squarely at commuters

However the highlight of the Gi FlyBike is undoubtedly how easy, and quick, it is to fold and unfold. Simply pull up on a lever at the bottom of the down tube and the bike will instantly fold in half. Do the opposite action and it will be ready to ride in just one second.

As you’d expect from any new cycling product nowadays the Gi FlyBike also comes with a companion app to allow you to connect it to your iPhone or Android smartphone. The app does acts as a GPS and lets you track your fitness, but also allows you to unlock the bike remotely when you’re within five metres and turns the lights and electronic assistance on and off.

After setting a goal of just $75,000 (£48,665) on Kickstarter, the company has now raised more than $425,000 (£275,770), with more than 250 people getting behind the project. The final product will be ready for June 2016, with a final retail price yet to be confirmed.
