Happy with how it handled the start of stage 14 to Cervinia last year, the Giro organisers accepted Cherasco’s request to host a finish. The locals will likely see a sprint, as from Busseto it is mostly flat.
The stage covers 242km over the Po valley, where much of Italy’s rice is grown. The GC men will have time to look at the flooded fields and think about the weekend to come. In fact, they’ll be happy to let the sprint teams take up the work with Jafferau and Galibier on tap.
They will awake from their slumber when it hits the outskirts of Cherasco.
This is Italy’s rice-growing zone, so risotto is in order. You have two choices: Risotto al Barolo or Risotto con Tartufo Bianco d’Alba. The former is prepared with Piedmont’s Nebbiolo grapes; the other is made with Parmigiano Reggiano and served with local truffles. Maybe try the second with a glass of Barolo wine.
