After Monte Zoncolan shook up the general classification at 2018 Giro d’Italia on Saturday, the race hits the mountains once again with a 176km stage to Sappada

The stage doesn’t have the fearsome climb of the Zoncolan, but is peppered with smaller climbs, with four categorised climbs and barely a kilometre of flat road on the way to the uphill finish into Sappada.

Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) continues to lead the race into the stage with a 1-24 gap to Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) in second with Domenico Pozzovivo (Bahrain-Merida) in third at 1-37

Yates may be looking to use Sunday’s stage to Sappada to put as much time into Dumoulin as possible before the crucial time trial on Tuesday’s stage 16.

But likewise, riders behind those two in the GC could also look to use the stage to boost their chances, with Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) and Domenico Pozzovio (Bahrain-Merida) aiming to move up ahead of the final week.
