The ninth stage of the Giro d’Italia would surely be one of the most decisive of the early stages of the race, if not the overall picture.

The riders faced the second summit finish of the race to the exceptionally difficult Blockhaus climb. If the first summit finish to Mount Etna was somewhat of an anti-climax thanks to the headwind, Blockhaus would surely stage the spectacle we’ve all been waiting for between the GC contenders.

A true icon of cycling, the Blockhaus climb has staged a number of spectacular finishes in the Giro, and its difficulty would certainly mean this would unlikely be a day for the breakaway.

But who would come out on top, and would Bob Jungels be able to hold on to the maglia rosa ahead of the time trial on Tuesday?
