Cinelli has been around for ages, but now only the Vai is available to fit old-size 26mm handlebars.

A basic-looking forged 6061 T6 aluminium stem with a ridged twin-bolt faceplate does the business, but the drop is steep at 73/107deg.

BBB may be less well known but the Speedstem ? which shares the same 600 series forged and heat-treated material as the Vai ? updates the design with a cold-forged, polished four-bolt faceplate. Stainless steel bolts should prevent any annoying rust build-up on both the BBB and the Pro Bike Gear.

The XLT, while costing the same as the BBB, is easily the classiest looking stem here. With decals that work whatever the orientation, matching faceplate, and classic octagonal shape, it would not look out of place on a high-end machine.

While the Vai is easily the cheapest, the steep drop may limit its appeal. The BBB simply doesn?t justify the extra cash ? it works fine but on the bike the Pro XLT is lighter and by far the stiffest. Factor in the looks and it?s a sure-fire winner.
