Thought your Giro Empire SLX or Specialized S-Works Sub 6 shoes are the height of fashion? Well think again, as Elia Viviani has taken things to the next level with a pair of custom DMT shoes that have been specially made for the Giro d’Italia.
The Italian’s shoes are predominantly white with pink details, but with the route of the 2016 Giro d’Italia emblazoned across the toebox, including the profile of the entire three week race around the route map.

As for the shoes themselves, they seem to be a prototype model from DMT, looking nothing like anything that’s currently in the Italian company’s range. They use a single Boa dial on the top of the shoe to adjust the laces that run beneath the shoe’s outer and possibly all the way through the sole, wrapping around the other side. The shoes say “Skeleton System +” on the outside, so this is probably an advancement on the standard Skeleton System closure that is used on DMT’s current top-end shoes.
As the only sprinter in Team Sky’s Giro d’Italia squad, Viviani will be looking to put his new kicks to good use in a generally flat opening week, before the race gets steadily hillier and more mountainous as the GC contenders come to the fore.
