Impact on GC 1/5
With no more nailed on bunch finishes until stage twelve, the sprinters can ill-afford to let this opportunity slip.
The terrain is bumpy throughout this lengthy trek north through central Italy, with the gentle category four Valico della Somma climb presenting a decent chance for attacks occurring as it does just 40km from the finish. But motivated sprinters team should be able to keep things together, especially as the 40km run-in is completely flat.
Those who have been in the mix in bunch sprints so far will be eager to win this one before the nastier terrain in upcoming days, although purer sprinters may struggle to survive the Valico della Somma.
Depending on the pace that it is tackled, the final climb may be too much for double stage winner Marcel Kittel (Etixx-QuickStep), but may be more to the liking of stage five winner André Greipel (Lotto-Soudal).
Whoever wins the stage, overall race leader Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin) should not be challenged during the day.
