Harry Gadbury, a keen time triallist on both bicycle and tandem before the war, died last Thursday, October 26. He was aged 86. He was a member of London clubs The Oval CC and Tooting BC and he attended every Good Friday Herne Hill meeting from 1933 until 2002.

He often officiated at the Good Friday meeting, or helped put up riders from abroad, including World and Olympic champions Daniel Morelon and Patrick Trentin. He also regularly attended the Monday Comp. and Wednesday evening meetings at the track.

Gadbury also sold bikes to many riders from his shop in Balham.

Cycling was his life and he enjoyed talking about his memories.

Gadbury’s funeral will be at Portchester Crematorium, Upper Cornaway Lane, Portchester, Hampshire, PO16 8NE, on Wednesday, November 8, at 12.30.
