Giro d'Italia 2016, stage 20 description, map and profile: Saturday, May 28
When Saturday, May 28
To Sant’Anna di Vinadio
Impact on GC 5/5
With even more climbing (four peaks) condensed into even fewer kilometres (134) than yesterday, stage 20 will make for a spectacular denouement to the GC race in this year’s Giro.
Without a substantial mountain top finish to rely on (the final climb is just 2.3km long), riders wishing to gain time will have to make a move early, be it on the penultimate Colla della Lombardia at 10km from the finish, the Col de la Bonette at 70km from the finish, or even as early as the Col de Vars that riders start ascending as soon as they roll out from the start line.
With the pink jersey still up for grabs, stage 20 could be a classic, with ample opportunities for the likes of Vincenzo Nibali and Steven Kruijswijk to make audacious attacks on . The race for King of the Mountains contest could also be spectacular with so many points on offer, as Mikel Nieve closes in on current leader Damiano Cunego.
