Bob Maitland, silver medallist in the 1948 London Olympic Games road race and a former Tour de France rider, is reported to have a had heart attack while on holiday in France. 

The 86-year-old Solihull rider is in hospital in Metz. He was taken ill while out walking.

Maitland was a member of the 1948 British Olympic team which finished second in the team standings in the road race in Windsor Great Park.  He placed sixth, the best British finisher.
